Kathmandu: The Ranipokhari's reconstruction is going on. But, there is a issue of material used to reconstruct the Ranipokhari. The Ranipokhari would be reconstructed in its origional form what was before th April 25, 2015 earthquake. But, construction company has used the cement and concrete for reconstruction. After protest from all sides against the use of cement and concrete instead of the traditional indigenous construction materials, all the cement and concrete would be removed within a week which was started 10 days back. All the concrete material would be removed within a week and would be reconstructed by using the traditional indigenous construction materials.
According to Kathamndu Metropolitan City, a call for tender would be made for recontruction of Ranipokhari and the recontruction work would assigned to a construction company. Since 18 months, construction was underway. Due to the protest from all sides the reconstruction were halted and started removing the concrete material from the site 10 days back.
Although KMC had stated that the reconstruction would be started from May 29, it has not yet begun.
The Ranipokhari lake and the Balgopaleshwar Temple located in the heart of the capital suffered damage due to the Gorkha earthquake that struck the country on April 25, 2015.
An experts' team constituted on December 28 last year had recommended in its report that this historic structure should be reconstructed in the original architectural style using the traditional building materials.
